Back in 1980 I was doing some odd jobs on cleaning and painting heavy equipment and a guy my grandfather was friends with wanted some equipment cleaned and painted for his saw mill. He had an old building that he said I could do the work in but just had to clean it out first and asked me if I would be interested in helping and I said yes. So when they opened up the door it was like they had cleaned out an antique store some place. There was a lot of old furniture in there and some old business signs 9I didn't want them at the time-but I should have got them) but anyway... I saw an old Pepsi Cooler and they said were moving it out and getting ready to load in on this flat bed truck with some other stuff and I said... wait.. what are you going to do with that Pepsi cooler.. they said it is going in the scrap.....and I asked if I could have it and they said it didn't work but I didn't care..it was in good condition and I had never seen one like it. So they said I could have it and I took it home . Well, it stayed at my parents basement for a few years until I got my own place and then what I intended on doing with it was using it for when I had friends over and use it for an outside cooler- but the refrigerant unit was what was bad and I wound up junking the refrigerant unit. It sat on my porch for years and last year my wife wanted me to make a catio for the cats and I had to move that Pepsi cooler..and when I moved it, I took it to the shop and decided to restore it.
I just got the lids/doors back from being hand lettered as they were done originally and I will be putting it up for sale soon. I found out that it is a one year only epsi cooler...a 1941 and the only year that Pepsi put a refrigerant unit in them, Then because of WW2...they were not made any longer and once they stopped working most of them were scraped. That puts these into a very hard to find item and a working unit sells for $10,000.00 ..Plus.. anyway.... here are some pictures..
