Hello, I have been doing restorations for 38 years and I haven't had a car done of my own since 1986 because it seams that I am always doing cars for other people. Anyway... I decided about a year ago that I need to get some parts for one of my cars restored and ready to just bolt them on when I was ready. Here are a few of the components that I have restored and sometimes modified for my car.

I picked up a 71 tilt steering column a few years back at a swap meet. It was rough but all there. I found a used cruise control parts to repair the broken original (hope it works) and I found an NOS key switch and an NOS turn signal switch. All of the 71-72 Tilt columns were for power steering and all were column shift so I modified mine for floor shift.

I had a couple rally clusters so I picked the best parts that I had and tested all the gauges and they all seam to work well. The AMP gauge I wanted to convert to a Volt gauge as a safety precaution because of the high output alternator I plan on using. I found a volt gauge that was the correct sweep direction and size and disassembled it and between the factory gauge parts and the new volt gauge parts this is what I made.

Then I went to the heater/A/C box... Wow!... expensive... I had to replace my evaporator and the heater core and all the diverter doors/seals were all bad. I had two heater/A/C boxes so I had just enough parts to make one good unit.

The rear axle assembly was in fair condition. It had pitting in the housing but I am not making a show car, just a nice driver but I still wanted it to look good. I disassembled the rear and I took the centre section to a guy to have a sure grip unit and a nice set of used gears installed and also the axles to have new bearings and seals installed. Then I took the housing and took it to the car was and cleaned it well on the inside and outside. Then I made some covers for the ends of the housing as well as a cover for the centre section and bolted them on.Then it was sandblasting time... and then I saw how pitted it was and I just couldn't leave it looking so bad so I filled the worst of the pits with allmetal and sanded and then mixed and sprayed it with reface and sanded that and primed with epoxy and painted it with some black urethane paint that I had (yea..I know it should be low gloss-but it's what I had. It came out a lot better than I thought it would.

What a great idea to restore all of these parts prior to starting the car....this is the real time consuming area and can really add up cost wise....love what you did for the console!....makes it much more useable with storage....what was that secondary part from that flips up?

I got the console pad with cup holder from a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I don't remember the year. Yes...it take a lot of time just doing the components to put in your car, let alone the drive train and the body.

Well, I bought new torsion bars for my charger but the powder coating had a rough finish, So I experimented and I sanded them and primed them with Epoxy and painted them with single stage urethane Black. I also sandblasted some other odds and ends and primed and painted them also.

Nice parts hanger. I usually use coat hangers and my garage door rail.

Yes!..It was the first time I used it. I usually used a plastic coated cloths line strung up from my shop to a tree (If I had the weather to prime and paint outside) if Not I have a lot of hooks in my ceiling to hang things but I have a Race car that I am working on in that bay and it was easier to do it outside. The rack I got on Amazon... usually they are $300.00 + dollars... I got this one for $77.00
